1-3 April 2016 – Les Journées Européennes des Métiers d’Art

Last Weekend of April 2016 – La Ferme de la Ferme
More than 20 departments will take part in La Ferme de la Ferme. Open days at Farms everywhere – meet the farmers, find out what goes on, help out and try products! Details: www.defermeenferme.com

3 April 2016 – Paris Marathon
35,000 runners from around the globe will take part in the 40th edition of the 26 mile dash through the streets of the world’s favourite capital.

9-17 April 2016 – International Kite Festival, Berck-sur-Mer, North France
A sight that you’ll never forget will greet you as you arrive at this little northern French seaside resort. A sky filled with thousands of kites – the biggest and the best in the world as this important international festival takes place on the beaches. 23-24 April 2016 – La Fête de la Coquille St Jacques, Brittany
Two days of festivities honouring the humble scallop! The ports of Saint-Quay-Portrieux, Loguivy-de-la-mer and Erquy hold a festival in honour of the queen of the sands. Boat rides, concerts, special menus and tastings. Details: www.erquy-tourisme.com

April 12-17, 2016 – Bourges Spring Festival, Bourges, Loire Valley
A major music event in France in this most charming city with an ancient footprint. Details: www.printemps-bourges.com

April 16-Sep 26, 2016 – Normandy Impressionist Festival, Normandy
A wide variety of events will happen in 2016 all over Normandy from fine art exhibitions to luncheons on the grass, sound and light shows to musical concerts. The central theme of the 2016 edition will be Impressionist portraits. Major exhibitions will be held in: Rouen, Musée des Beaux Arts; Caen, Musée des Beaux Arts;  Honfleur, Musée Eugène Boudin; Le Havre, MuMa, André Malraux Museum of Modern Art; Giverny, Musée des Impressionnismes.

April 17 – La Rederie d’Amiens Brocante Sale, Amiens, Picardy
The second biggest flea market event in France (Lille Braderie first weekend of Septmber is the biggest). Thousands flock to the flea market in the shadow of the famous Cathedral of Amiens and it’s a great day out and you may just find the bargain of the year if you go early in the morning! Details: www.somme-tourisme.com

April 21-November 2, 2016 – Chaumont-sur-Loire International Garden Festival, Loire Valley
A bit like the Chelsea Flower Show meets Kew Gardens. It’s the biggest garden show in France and it lasts for months!

April 23-24, 2016 – The Great Roman Games, Nimes
An extraordinary event which sees the return of the Roman Games to the awesome roman amphitheatre (which dates back to 70AD) in Nimes, south of France, if you’re not tempted to yell “I’m Sparticus” as chariots race by, I’ll eat my hat!

April 29 – May 6 2016 –  Foire de Paris, Paris
Each year the Paris Fair brings together thousands of exhibitors from all over France and around the world to promote their products from swimming pools to wine and food. A unique shopping experience and a must for bargain-hunters and shopping fanatics. Details: www.foiredeparis.fr
