A look at some of the top events in France in January 2019 – just because it’s cold out doesn’t meant there’s nothing going on!

Throughout France on 6 January its time to celebrate La Fête des Rois. This age old tradition which takes place every year in France to celebrate the Epiphany. A special cake called the galette des rois is baked and takes pride of place in patisseries. Inside the cake a lucky charm is hidden – the fève, and the finder is crowned king for a day.

The Sales – Les Soldes d’Hiver. The annual winter sales in France take place from 9 January to 19 February 2019 – the perfect excuse for a Gallic shopping excursion. Lots of bargains from the big stores to the small independents throughout the country with the price drops getting bigger towards the end – definitely a chance to pick up a bargain.

Avignon – Horse Passion: 16 -20 January 2019. Horses are put through their paces with showjumping events, polo, dressage and carriage driving.

Truffle Festival Sarlat: A large truffle market will be held over the weekend of 19-20 January 2019, featuring fresh truffles, gourmet specialities, music and festivities including workshops. See The Good Life France Magazine Winter 2018 to read more about this fabulous event.

Angoulême, Poitou-Charentes: Festival International de la Bande Dessinée 24 – 27 January 2019. This year celebrating its 41st anniversary, this homage to comics, much loved by the French, from Asterix to Tintin draws huge crowds of fans. There are competitions for amateurs and enthusiasts get to meet the professionals, watch them work and ask questions.

In London The France Show takes place 25-27 January 2019 and editor of The Good Life France, Janine Marsh will be on stage on Friday and Saturday talking about life in France!

Burgundy: Saint Vincent Tournante – 26 -27 January 2019.  Each year a Burgundian town is chosen to host the introduction of the last year’s vintage to visitors. A fun weekend to eat and drink your way through.

Reims: Historic Rally of Monte Carlo – 30 January- 6 February 2019. A selection of legendary cars all of which will have competed in at least one of the Monte Carlo rallies comes to Reims from where the number one winter car race to Monaco will commence.

La Folle Journee Nantes a major international music festival that last 5 days during which around 250 classical music concerts are held. 30 January- 3 February 2019.
