Provence Wine Tour

This is a wine tour in Provence that’s like no other. It will be limited to just eight people and for seven days and six nights you’ll be totally spoiled and get an introduction to the best of Provence in a unique and fabulous way.

You don’t need to know anything about wine to enjoy this trip which takes in some of the most famous and beautiful vineyards in the world.

The adventure starts at lovely Avignon in the heart of Provence and in the shadow of the historic Palais des Papes, where Popes once lived in splendour and sipped fine wines made close by. You’ll also visit Chateauneuf-du-Pape, where the popes had their summer chateau and where some of the most amazing wines are still made and of course you’ll be tasting them.

Wine tasting, gourmet food and spell-binding villages in Provence

Each day on the trip you’ll be visiting different domains – some of them opening their doors especially for you. You’ll enjoy the very best wines and gourmet food in the most beautiful parts of Provence at a time when the sun is wonderfully warm but not baking hot, making for optimal tasting conditions! A wine maker will even be walking you through his vineyard and then impressing you with his culinary talent and of course the perfect pairing with his own wine.

You’ll be going to legendary villages like Gordes, Menerbes (think Peter Mayle and A Year in Provence). You will also visit Lourmarin, officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, and many others. The charming markets will enchant you, you will enjoy sensational local cheeses and olives and have a picnic in a vineyard setting you’ll never forget. There will be a wine pairing session and guided visits of exceptional villages. That’s not all, there much more to this tour which has been put together with incredible care.

Grape stomp in France

And, you’ll have your very own “I Love Lucy” moment because on this tour you’ll join an authentic grape stomp. Roll up your pants and your sleeves to squish those grapes as French wine makers used to do generations ago. Just think of the look on your friends and families faces when you share that selfie!

Where to drink absinthe in France

My insomnia sparked the whole thing off. I listened to a radio programme in the wee small hours entitled ‘Absinthe Makes the Art Grow Fonder’. It told of madness, creative genius, smuggling, fairies, suicide and debauchery in le demi-monde of Montmartre in la Belle-Époque. Captivated, I set out to discover more. Until that point my […]

The history of absinthe, the once forbidden drink

Banned for almost 100 years, believed to induce madness in those who drank it, absinthe is making a come back. Invented by a French doctor, the highly alcoholic drink has a colourful history. How to do Nice on a budget

Written by on February 19, 2018 in Provence-Alpes

Imagine you’re wandering through the winding narrow streets in the old town of Nice. The sun is beating down, the sky is a deep spirit-lifting blue.  You stop at Cours Saleya market to buy a snack – maybe socca, the local speciality, a pancake made from chick peas. Perhaps a punnet of sweet smelling strawberries, […]
