Fully catered luxury tandem bike holidays in France

Discover beautiful, gastronomic south west France on a bicycle made for two…

Cycling in France is massively popular and that’s no surprise, in the land of the Tour de France, where roads are less populated and the scenery from a saddle is second to none, riding your bike is an absolutely joy. For 2019, there’s a new way to see some of the best of France – by electric assist tandem. Take a great new luxury bike holiday tour in the Lot et Garonne department, south west France with Tandems and Turrets.

Tandems and Turrets

Based at the beautiful fairy-tale turreted Chateau Caillac, on the edge of the River Lot, tandem tours will take in the best of the area by tandem, and not just any old tandem. Electric assist tandems, built to spec, are provided. They take the hard work out of your ride so you get to really enjoy the experience.

Bike mad Angela and Steve Hall have created this new fully catered tour at their luxury chateau. Don’t be concerned if you haven’t ridden a tandem before as Steve and Angela are experienced tandem riders who will soon have you on your way.

The week-long holiday with luxury accommodation and gourmet meals will aim to have you covering 30-40 miles per day on your tandem. But, as this is a small group tour, the itinerary can be customised. You’ll be fully accompanied and supported the whole time and says Steve “this is the perfect holiday for couple who enjoy adventure, great food, fitness and luxury”. You’ll have loads of time to practice if this is your first time, and depending on ability you’ll be able to combine level routes with more challenging rides in the hills. “Small towns en route often have a café, small restaurant and of course a boulangerie with a weekly market in the morning selling local produce for stops and experiences”.

A bicycle made for two

There’s something rather special about riding a bicycle made for two. Those who do it say it can even be good for a couple’s relationship, being in the same rhythm, seeing the same sights, chatting away together instead of one rushing off ahead. It takes two to tandem.

The Lot et Garonne region is ideal for cycling. Level routes are varied so can be easily customised according to skills and will take in the lush Lot river valley, rolling hills and enchanting bastide towns en route. As you whizz in harmony with your bike riding partner, the warm sun, fresh air and scent of blossom makes you feel wonderfully vibrant and alive, in harmony with your surrounding and is a great deal of fun! “This area of France is blessed with plenty of quiet country roads. They wind their way between bastide towns like beautiful Temple-sur-Lot, Pugols and Monclar, and through verdant vineyards and fields” says Steve.

“Cycling is a national pastime in France and in this area especially. It’s a massively popular way to truly appreciate the glorious landscape and local drivers are always courteous and friendly” says Angela.
