French Connections are one of the biggest and longest running gite rental companies in the UK. But did you know they also sell property in France?

And if you’re looking to sell, they will list it for a flat fee until your property is sold.

Buying property in France

2020 has seen record numbers of British property seekers wanting to get a foothold in France before Brexit takes place (December 2020). Even after this, it will still be possible to buy property in France in the same way other buyers who are not in the European Union can. But how it will all work won’t be clear until negotiations are complete.

British owners of property in France will keep the right to buy and rent homes in France (even with a no deal Brexit) as they do now – it will be subject to French law, not the EU.

But long stays for non-residents will be affected. Brits will need to apply for long stay visas if planning to stay for more than 90 out of 180 days (as per Americans, Australians etc).

For those moving to France before the transition period, they will retain their current rights as now including residency, healthcare etc. British expats will have to apply for a carte de sejour post June 30, 2021 (the system for application is expected to go online in October 2020).

Easy to reach by car, with an enviable lifestyle, fabulous gastronomy, excellent healthcare and education system, France is becoming a more and more popular option for a permanent move for families and those who can work remotely as well as retirees.

Where to buy in France

With diverse landscapes from the Alps to the Mediterranean, countryside and city living – the choice of property for sale is huge. Average prices for properties vary widely from region to region and within departments.

Limousin is traditionally low-priced. An uncrowded and unspoiled area that’s great for rural living. Popular with Brits, Dordogne is still a favourite but across the border in the Charente area prices can be much lower especially inland. It pays to work out what you want from your French home and then research the many different areas.

Those who don’t mind renovating will find plenty of bargains. Those who want to move in and start their new life in France also spoiled. It really depends on your personal taste and there are lots of opportunities for you to find the home of your dreams in France – despite Brexit.
