Bonjour from France

Bonjour

Hope you had a great week.

Here in my little corner of France, where the landscape still bears the scars of two world wars, there are preparations under way across the region to commemorate and honour the lost with a special vigil for Armistice Day 11 November 2018. And, if you’re in the area on 10 – 11 November there is a post about what’s on in the link below.

Chez moi, the two naughty ducklings Samson and Delilah have turned into little thugs. Every morning, I follow my bird routine, wild birds first, then boy ducks in their pen, followed by the chickens and female ducks in their pen, and finally the geese.

All the pens are joined by a series of gates and, as soon as I open the gate to the middle pen, Samson and Delilah are there, pecking at my boots, hanging on to my gloves, jumping into the food bucket. They chase me about and they peck hard I can tell you. They hop over to the fence to follow me into the goose pen which starts them all off honking, everyone starts clucking and quacking – it’s like a mad house. Poor Brad Pitt, a newcomer and a rather handsome young cockerel is the only trespasser allowed in the goose pen. Gregory Peck Jr, the oldest cockerel, has taken a dislike to him and won’t let him eat so I have to feed him on his own with the unfriendly geese. Brad is in love with Barbie the blonde chicken, but Gregory Peck is jealous, so poor Brad is unplucky in the girlfriend stakes. Does this sound like an episode of Soap? I think it might do (that’s going back a bit isn’t it?!) … Never a dull moment with animals I have to say.

Wherever you are, whatever you have planned, I wish you a very bon weekend,

Bisous from France,
Janine

Bonjour, Hope you had a great week. Strangely the weather has been okay here. I’ve been seeing photos of snow in some parts of Europe as winter arrives, but there’s nothing like that in my bit of northern France. I keep reading that colder weather is on its way, (the Beast from the East some […]

Bonjour Happy New Year – in France we say it all through January! I hope you had fun and a relaxing start to 2019. I’ve made my new year resolutions but it’s not going to be easy with all the boulangeries and patisseries I come across in France. It’s pretty much like “I’m going to […]

Happy New Year from the middle of nowhere rural France

Bonjour Hope you had a lovely Christmas. Here it was a quiet Christmas as usual, not too much razzmatazz in the middle of nowhere rural France. Farmers carry on as normal, early mornings, milking cows, feeding livestock, though not much work in the fields as the ground is either frozen or sodden this time of […]

Merry Christmas from the middle of nowhere France

Hope you had a great week. Here Christmas is in full swing – quite literally as its been very windy and the inflated Father Christmases that everyone seems to love so much here are blowing in the gales. They hang from gutters, chimneys and windows, some are life-sized, some less so. They’re very odd, I […]

Bon weekend from frosty France

Bonjour Hope you had a great week. Here it’s been proper frosty in the mornings and very cold, even during the day the frost has stayed thick on the ground, sparkling when a ray of sun manages to get through the clouds. I have had to carry buckets of water down to the bird pens […]
