Bon weekend from frosty France

Written by on November 24, 2018 in Newsletter from France

Bonjour

Hope you had a great week.

I have to tell you, it’s beginning to feel a bit like Christmas in some parts of France though not where I live. Here there are unspoken rules. 7 days before Christmas for decorations, not before!

In Paris though, where I’ve been this week – the lights are on! And just thirty minutes from the centre, at the Chateau of Vaux-le-vicomte they’re on too lighting up round 15000 decorations and 130 Christmas trees! I visited this week and felt like I had arrived in Christmas land, it was so beautiful… You’ll be able to read about my trip next week when the Winter issue of The Good Life France magazine comes out. And you don’t want to miss this edition believe me, it’s absolutely packed with great stories, recipes and loads of contests including the chance to win a week in a gorgeous gite in Carcassonne… So nip onto the link below for the Autumn issue and subscribe there for free (forever, not just for this issue) and the wonderful winter issue will pop into your inbox in a few days’ time.

Meanwhile, we’ve had the first snow of the season in Paris and it’s been freezing here in northern France. We’ve never got through a winter yet without the pipes freezing. Last year we managed to unfreeze the kitchen after half an hour with a hair dryer aimed at pipes in the loft, keeping our fingers crossed that the pipes wouldn’t burst. It was fine. But two weeks later, the pipes to the washing machine burst and flooded the kitchen. This year we’ve insulated like we live in the Arctic.

Wherever you are stay warm and chilled and have a lovely bon weekend,
Bisous from France,
Janine

Bonjour, Hope you had a great week. As I write this the Le Touquet car rally is going on outside. It’s an annual event which apparently kickstarts the rally season in France. It also shakes my pigsty/office, as what sounds like hundreds of drivers fling their cars down our little rue and round hairpin bends […]
