Complete list of public holidays France 2014 – both fixed and changeable date bank holidays.
There are a number of fixed public holidays (bank holidays) each year. They are fixed to a specific date regardless of whether it falls on a weekday or weekend. This is different from some countries where a public holiday falling on a weekend may be changed to create a public holiday on a week day or where public holidays take place attached to a weekend.
Fixed Public Holidays France 2014
The following are held on the same day each year:
New Year’s Day – 1st January each year
Labour Day – 1st May each year
VE Day – 8th May each year
Bastille Day – 14th July each year
Assumption Day – 15th August each year
All Saints Day – 1st November each year
Armistice Day – 11th November each year
Christmas Day – 25th December each year
Boxing Day/Saint Etienne’s Day – 26th December. Most of France doesn’t celebrate Boxing Day as a public holiday – only the Moselle and Alsace.
Changeable Public Holidays France 2014
In France there are also a number of changeable public holidays whose dates are not fixed. The dates for 2014 are:
Good Friday (only in the Moselle, the Bas-Rhin and the Haut-Rhin) – 18 Apr 2014
Easter Sunday – 20 Apr 2014
Easter Monday – 21 Apr 2014
Ascension Day (40 days after Easter Sunday, always on a Thursday) – 29 May 2014
Monday following Pentacost/Whit Monday – 9 Jun 2014
