French Valentine's Day card

It’s that time of year when we like to wish you all a Bonne St Valentin.

If you dream of a French style Valentine’s Day at home we’ve got some tips to help you create a bit of ooh la la where ever you are!

We spoke to a wine expert about what wines to have for this special day that won’t break the bank and we’ve got some fabulous recipes to share including some gorgeous desserts like Coeur à la Crème or an amazing Chocolate and Hazelnut crepe cake – yes we know it’s not Mardi Gras any more but – come on, how can anyone resist this?!

On the subject of food – coming up in March is the Calais Wine and Food Fair – an irresistible gastronomic opportunity with more than 60 wine producers, top chefs producing dishes you’ll love AND you get your own personal tasting glass at the entrance. At just €3 to get in or free with a P & O Ferries ticket what’s not to love about this one?!

I’ve been sharing my passion for French shop advertising signs and French road signs and it looks like I am not alone – we had so many comments and likes on Facebook I was astonished!

We said happy birthday to Jules Verne, the French father of science-fiction and investigated some strange laws in France, debunking a few myths in the process like the one which gets you arrested if you call a pig Napoleon!

Finally we shared the story of Janine Wood who was made redundant from her planning job in the UK. She and her husband thought long and hard about how to ease the financial difficulties that faced them and considered selling their much loved second home in France. However Janine had an epiphany and they sold the house in the UK instead and moved to France to manage gites and they are loving it!

If you’re not our friend on Facebook or Twitter you’re missing out – and so are we; we’ve got a great community going on – come and join us!

So, Bonne St Valentin and à bientôt mes amis,

Janine
