Iggy Pop is to release an album of French and English cover songs in May entitled “Après” and on his Facebook page he says some of the songs will be in French… “I wanted to sing some of these songs myself, hoping to bring the feeling I felt as a listener to my listeners through my voice. Many of these songs are in French, probably because it is French culture which has most stubbornly resisted the mortal attacks of the Anglo-American music machine.”
For those of us who think of Iggy as the archetypal wildman of music it will be interesting to hear his renditions of La Vie en Rose (Edith Piaf) and Only the Lonely (Frank Sinatra).
