Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

Cheese, Christmas Markets and much more newsletter from France!

autumn newsletter

Bonjour!

This week I’m sending you this letter from my home in northern France. I feel like I haven’t sat still for very long over the last few weeks as I’ve just got back from London and I’m about to head off to Paris.

My 6 cats, 3 dogs, 4 geese, 25 ducks and 33 chickens are not impressed by all this coming and going. The problem is that I spoil them. The cats are outdoors most of the time, they’re all half feral and are strays I’ve taken in, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want a cuddle. The dogs have their own little house in the garden for daytime use but they too like a bit of company and to know I’m around. It might surprise you but the chickens, ducks and geese are, I think, really quite fond of me!

On days when I need a bit of peace and quiet and to think and be inspired, I’ll often go and sit in the bird pen where I have a bench. Although there’s a fair bit of quacking and clucking going on it’s also quite tranquil unless Pierre the farmer has his cows in the field at the bottom of my garden. Cows are nosy creatures so they come to the fence to have a look at the new animal in the pen, this sets the dogs off barking, the cats come and see what’s going on, the geese run around honking and flapping their wings and the chickens jump up in the trees like monkeys enjoying the chaos. Then it’s time to got for a walk in the local countryside! That’s the road at the side of my house above (and my dog Churchill running in the autumn leaves!) where I always find inspiration.

Wishing you all a great weekend,
Best wishes
